The Simple Weight Loss Plan

This article gives free tips and advice about how to lose weight. Dieting does not need to be a choir, however many of the weight loss programs that are available make it this way. During the article, I describe an easy to follow diet or weight loss program which has helped me to reach a weight that I am now happy and feel comfortable with.

The solution to my weight problem

The first thing I had to do was to be honest with myself. I asked myself a series of questions:

Why are you over-weight?

I do not eat the right types of food and I rarely exercise.

How determined are you to lose weight?

Very determined.

Are you willing for this to be a long term project, or are you looking for a quick fix?

The quicker the better, however I realise that crash diets do not work and end up causing more harm than good.

Do you feel you have enough self-discipline to succeed?

I am not sure but I will have to have, to reach my target weight.

The weight loss plan

These are the things I must do:

Eat three healthy meals a day.

Exercise more. This will be achieved by leaving the car at home more often and by walking to certain places, such as my children's school. I will also take the children to play sports like football and tennis, as often as I can.

Fight the demons in my head who constantly tempt me into eating.

These are the things I must not do:

Snack in between meals.

Eat too many take-aways, I will basically allow myself one a week.

Lie to other people or even myself about what I have eaten.

This sounds so simple and is very easy to follow. I have to admit that it is not that easy to carry off, especially not being able to snack between meals. With determination you can succeed and the sense of happiness and pride you will feel when you reach a weight you are happy with, will make it all worthwhile.

Weight Loss Facts - Now You Can Find Out How To Lose Pounds Every 11 Days

Before plunging into any weight loss programs or diet exercises, a person should consider thoroughly the consequences of the dieting decisions that he makes along with the overall costs. For a person, being obese can really cause serious health problems. These consequences include an increase in the risk of heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other forms of cancer as well. Losing weight would reduce these risks. So one has to follow certain important points like:

Reduce the number of calorie related products in food and beverages or one can also go for exercise to burn off his calories. Experts recommend the people to combine both of the above points.

Very low calorie diets are in fact risky too and should be taken under medical supervision only. If a person takes low calorie diet without any supervision, then he can be deprived of important nutrients and it becomes a potential hazard to his health.

Fad diets rarely contain any permanent effect on a person. Any radical or sudden change in the eating habit is difficult to maintain over time. Further, a crash diet sends the person into a cycle of sudden weight loss and followed by a rebound weight gain once he resumes eating normal diet. He faces more difficulty in reducing his weight when he attempts his next diet.

In order to lose weight in a safe manner requires long term changes in the daily diet and also in the exercise habits. Experts recommend people with obesity to have a goal of losing about a pound per week. Modest reduction of 500 calories per day is the perfect way to achieve the goal. Lastly, a person has to learn and practice a healthy eating habit in order to lower his calorie intake.

No Magic Potion To A Fabulous Body

There is an alarming increase in the American population of men, women and children who are hitting the weighing scale at morbid obesity. More and more people are getting the heck of it to lose weight. Some for the purpose of looking good and others want to loose that excess fat for the more essential matters of the health.

People strive to manage their health and weight. While more and more people take an interest in becoming fit and trim. A lot of weight lose product and programs have been designed to cater the demand. Oftentimes a healthy approach to weight management is being set aside in lieu of unrealistic goals of losing weight in just a short period of time.

Any program or weight loss therapy that thrives on the context of rapid weight loss and rapid outcomes may lead to frustration at times. This method tends to 'work' due to the loss of water weight and not of fat weight which will eventually weaken the body's immune system thereby predisposing the person to some diseases.

Have you heard of the term "yo-yo" dieting as a resulting from this type of weight loss program? It allows a water loss in the body leaving the cells looking frail. For a weight loss program to be effective it should fit in with the kind of lifestyle that you have. Using supplements will never provide a favorable result. It needs a balanced diet and a working exercise program.

When you decided to lose weight, you need to seek ample information to help you decide and derive with a wise fitness and diet lifestyle. To lose weight you have to take it with dedication and discipline.

The Truth About Diets And Weight Loss

If you haven't tried fad diets over the years, there is still a good chance you have heard about them. You have probably wondered if these diets work. After all, it sure seems that people have success with them. The truth is some of them do work - for a while. Several of these diets have other health complications. Regardless of what you have been led to believe, the idea that you can eliminate a whole group of foods is unhealthy.

How can eight slices of bacon be better for any body than a slice of whole-wheat bread? Sounds a bit absurd, doesn't it? Yet, when shown apparent evidence of massive weight loss, common sense often is replaced with the desire to join the latest "foolproof" fad diet.

Enough of the sermon! There are proven methods of weight loss. That is what this article will look at. The lack of excitement and popularity is made up for by the effectiveness of these techniques.

1. Calories count.

The one sure way to lose weight is to take in fewer calories than you expend. One pound is equal to about 3500 calories. This means for every 3500 calories you burn above and beyond what you take in, you will lose one pound. You can come up with this difference either by taking in fewer calories, or expending more through exercise. The best recommendation is to balance the two.

2. Food matters.

It is nice to think that avoiding, or some secret combination of, certain foods will make it easier to lose weight. Fad diets prey upon this very idea. There is some truth to this, but only to the extent that healthy foods are a better choice. As obvious as that is, fad diets cloud the issue.

Eat whole, nutritious foods. Avoid saturated fats, sugar, and refined foods. And, as mentioned, calories count. So choosing lower calorie foods will help the weight come off faster.

3. You got to move.

Exercise seems like hard work to those who prefer to sit down in front of the television. You can find ways to get moving that you enjoy. Walking is easy, but some find it boring. Taking the stairs, not taking the car if possible, doing your own yard work, playing with your kids or pets, swimming, or even throwing a Frisbee around all are forms of exercise.

The key is to get yourself moving. It does not have to be a chore, but it does have to become a habit. Find a way to get moving that you enjoy.

Admittedly, these tips have been around for a long time, but there is a reason - they are effective. Any weight loss plan that incorporates these three things is bound to succeed. There is also the benefit to your overall health, not just your waistline. The next time you hear about (or think about trying) the newest and hottest diet, read these tips again. You will likely save some money and lose weight the right way in the process.

Weight Loss Truths - Calorie Restriction is the Key to Weight Loss Success

All successful weight loss programs rely on one common denominator; calorie restriction.

What is calorie restriction? Calorie restriction is an effort to reduce the amount of calories one consumes in order for the body to achieve a negative energy balance. This is simply a person reducing food consumption to the point that they are burning more energy than they are consuming. The body is then forced to use stored fuel (muscle tissue, glycogen and body fat) in order to survive. The burning of these stored fuels is cause of the weight loss phenomenon.

How does a person achieve this negative energy balance through calorie restriction? First a person must have an idea on what a calorie is. A calorie is a measure of heat. Food is the fuel our body needs to generate heat. If the body is not getting enough fuel from food consumption then the fuel must be found elsewhere. That fuel is found in our body fat.

The best analogy for this process is gasoline and an automobile. Cars run on gasoline. Without gasoline, a car is useless. We drive our car and fill up with gasoline when we are getting low on fuel.

What would happen if we put 18 gallons on gas in our car if we only burned 16 gallons? We would have extra gas left over. That extra gas has to go somewhere so it goes into storage for when we only have 14 gallons available but we need 16 gallons.

What would happen if we never tapped into our gas reserves? The surplus would keep growing and growing causing a need for larger storage tanks.

The human body works in the exact same way. The surplus fuel (food) is turned into stored energy (body fat) and the only way to reduce how much fuel is stored in reserve is to limit new consumption of fuel (food). This is the only way that the human body can body fat. A caloric deficit must be established so stored energy (body fat) can be burned to keep us alive.

How is a calorie deficit achieved? The simplest answer is to eat a fewer number of calories then it takes to fuel your basal metabolic rate. The BMR (basal metabolic rate) is the measure of energy a person needs to subsist. People can figure out their BMR by using any of the numerous BMR calculators that can be found online.

Once the BMR is calculated a person can then have a goal to shot for. If the BMR is 2500 calories a day, they a person should shoot to try to eat fewer the 2500 calories a day for a consistent period of time.

How can a person effectively create a caloric deficit? Part 2 of this article will address this issue.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid and Weight Loss

It is well known that with the growing awareness regarding the harmful effects of obesity, scores of supplements have flooded the market and while some of these are quite effective, a whopping majority of these products are not at all useful in causing weight loss. On the other hand, they have several side effects and are at times quite harmful for the body. Therefore, it is usually advised that before investing on these weight loss supplements which provide rapid weight loss opportunities, one should be conducting a proper research and most importantly consider the guidelines set down by the US FDA i.e. the Food and Drugs Administration. There are several products which have been sanctioned by the FDA to be sold with or without a prescription. Among the few weight loss supplements which are allowed to be sold without a prescription, one of the foremost is Conjugated Linoleic Acid or CLA.

A lot of research work has been carried out in by various researchers and this has revealed that conjugated linoleic acid is extremely beneficial in reducing weight by causing loss of body fat. While excess fat is lost by means of increased fat metabolism, conjugated linoleic acid is also extremely helpful in aiding the preservation of muscles and muscle tissues. Moreover, it is instrumental in lowering the triglyceride and blood sugar level in the body. According to the researchers, it has been proved beyond doubt that the conjugated linoleic acid helps in securing weight loss at a much faster rate and moreover it has been estimated roughly that compared to the other manifold supplements available, this confirms more by about 6 pounds and the rate of losing weight with the consumption of conjugated linoleic acid is definitely much more faster. For attaining best results, about 3.4 grams of conjugated linoleic acid needs to be consumed on a daily basis.

One of the most significant functions of the conjugated linoleic acid is that not only does it facilitate weight loss, on the other hand it has various beneficial effects on the body unlike most of the supplements which are more prone to cause harm that benefits. Conjugated linoleic acid apart from aiding weight loss strengthens the immunity system of the body and plays a significant role in the reduction of fat which accumulates in excess around the abdomen area. The inclusion of conjugated linoleic acid in one's diet can work wonders by aiding weight loss considerably.

Basal Metabolic Rate and How It Affects Weight Loss

Basal Metabolic Rate is not usually the first thing that comes to mind when you think about weight loss. We usually think about dieting and exercise programs. But, BMR is a large factor in how our bodies gain or lose weight.

Counting the calories consumed in foods or used in exercise needs to have some base line to measure against. Part of this measurement is based on the basal metabolic rate or BMR. The BMR is the base rate for the body's calorie consumption for the basic functions of the body like pumping blood, maintaining body temperature and repairing blood cells.

The food calories consumed and the exercise calories expended are both important to success in weight loss. The number of calories taken in less the number of calories used equals the calories that are left to be stored as fat in adipose tissues. That amount is approximately 70 calories per hour; a little more when we are awake and a little less when we are sleeping. Everyone has a slightly different BMR depending partially on their genetics and partially on their body types.

Other factors that affect the basal metabolic rate are your body temperature (for instance, if you have a fever) and some medications (such as antidepressants). A fever can cause weight loss and antidepressants can cause weight gain. Talk to your health care professional about how the medications you take can affect your body and whether you would need to take additional steps to prevent excessive weight gain.

Your body must have some fat in order to function. Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are used for electrical functions by the heart, brain and muscles. They are also used by the body for regulating hormones.

BMR can also be changed when you are injured. This is a temporary change while your body is using essential fatty acids and proteins to rebuild damaged tissues. Some weight can be lost when recovering from an injury, depending on its severity. Of course, you wouldn't want to go out and break a leg just to lose a few pounds :)

Foods that are high in fat and refined sugars can reduce the basal metabolic rate because they are low in fiber and bulk. This slows down the activity in the intestines and causes the body to absorb more calories from them. Proper nutrition and getting enough vitamins and minerals can help regulate the BMR.

BMR is generally determined by family genetics. To prevent the poor BMR levels that are handed down from the generations before you, it is important to eat a proper diet and exercise according to your age and body's fitness level.

Taking the basal metabolic rate into account when you are planning to lose weight will help you on the road to success.

Why You May NOT Want To Lose Weight

Let's say you are stressed, frustrated, angry, sad, lonely, tired or depressed. You want to feel better and you find yourself mindlessly reaching for food. You eat quickly, paying little attention to the type of food or how much you're eating. At some point, what you've just done registers physically, mentally and emotionally. You feel disgusted, angry, guilty, upset and discouraged with yourself and resign yourself to believing that this unhealthy habit will never change.

There are a few things happening here. First, you're trying to find a fast, easy way to self soothe which doesn't require any thought or pre planning. It's easy, it temporarily numbs the pain, calms the anxiety, reduces the anger, keeps the fear down and provides a temporary distraction so you don't have to evaluate, fix or solve your problem. Yes it keeps you overweight, but it also provides an opportunity to remove yourself from feeling, thinking and dealing with your fears, doubts and insecurities. You may even be unaware that you do this or you may not know why you've chosen this coping strategy. What you do know however is that eating emotionally leaves you overweight and unhappy.

There are many reasons why we may eat emotionally, ranging from staying with conditioned behaviors we were taught to having poor coping skills or outlets to help us handle our problems and ourselves in a more effective way. While it seems natural to want to kick the emotional eating habit in order to lose weight, many of us may need to consider why we may feel the need to keep the weight on.

Weight provides a protective barrier. Remember when you would hide behind your mom's leg when you were scared? Our extra layers of weight may be providing that same security. For many, losing weight may leave us feeling insecure or uncertain because our role may change once the weight is lost. Expectations by others and ourselves may change as a result of weight loss success and we may feel that we are expected to accomplish more, perform or behave differently as a result. This feeling can generate fear and it may seem easier to stay with what is familiar than to venture into the unknown.

The extra weight also keeps us out of the game of life, giving us an excuse to avoid something rather than risk failure. With the weight, you may justify being rejected, overlooked or disregarded as being a result of the excess weight rather than deal with the pain of not being liked, wanted or valued.

Yet another reason why we may keep the weight on is to punish someone or to test someone's love for us. Maybe you dislike your husband's, partner's, parent's or coworker's comments, criticism or judgment about your weight. Keeping the weight on may be your passive/aggressive way of talking back.

Finally, for some of us, keeping the weight on is a way to test our spouse's love for us and we use it to see if the relationship will withstand the weight. When you're overweight yet confident, loving and supportive, relationships can survive almost anything. When you're negative, pessimistic and using your weight as a testing tool, you may want to consider what the real reason is that you're putting your relationship through this test.

It takes some real soul searching to look deep within and try to understand what the excess weight provides. Does it provide security, protection, an excuse to avoid a perceived failure? Whatever the reason, it's important to discover and understand why you've chosen to keep the weight on. Now try to see if you're trying to punish anyone other than yourself, if it's rational and worthy of continuing. If you discover something traumatizing or it feels too difficult for you to handle alone, get the help and support you need to get you through. By uncovering the reason for your weight, you're taking the first step to doing anything to change it.

Very often, excess weight is an outward sign that something is going on inside. For many moms, excess weight provides nothing more than a lack of energy, frustration and larger clothes. For others however, the excess weight provides much more. It's up to you to determine what the extra weight is giving you and what price you're willing to pay to keep it there.

Weight Loss Options - Surgery and Dieting

Obesity is one of most common health problems in our society. Many people struggle with their weight on a daily basis. Some people want to lose weight for cosmetic reasons, and others need to lose weight for health reasons.

Regardless of your reason for pursuing weight loss, you will likely be overwhelmed by the many different diet and surgical options available. There are a number of popular diet plans, some of which are helpful for weight loss, and some of which are just fads that arent likely to help with long-term weight management.

Diet plans that encourage you to eat only certain types of foods with certain other types of foods, or encourage you to eliminate certain other foods from your diet fall under the category of fad diets. Such diets tend to be unhealthy and do not bring about lasting weight loss. Some people do experience initial weight loss success from following certain fad diets. However, it is impossible to follow a very structured and rigid diet forever, and people tend to very quickly re-gain any losses that come about from fad diets.

When seeking weight loss through diet, it is important to keep in mind that no matter what you eat, you will gain weight when you regularly take in more calories than you expend, and you will lose weight when you regularly expend more calories than you consume.

In spite of the many different suggested eating plans, this basic formula for diet and weight loss holds true. If you go on an all candy diet, but you burn off more calories than you consume, you will lose weight. If you go on an all juice diet and you dont burn off more calories than you consume, you will gain weight.

The best diet for weight loss is a balanced diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables, and goes light on refined sugar and flour. Whole foods provide more nutrients than processed foods. When you are reducing calories, it is important to choose foods that give you the best nutritional bang for your buck. Your body needs foods from all of the major food groups to function properly and stay healthy.

For people who are significantly overweight and are not able to lose weight through traditional methods, there are a number of weight loss surgery options. Both gastric bypass and lap band weight loss surgeries have been used successfully by many people who need to lose significant amounts of weight.

Gastric bypass is a permanent surgical procedure that makes it physically impossible for people to consume large amounts of food. Following gastric bypass, a person is likely to drop large amounts of weight very quickly, do to the sudden drastic change in calories consumed. A more recent technology than gastric bypass, the lap band procedure is gaining in popularity because it is less painful, less invasive, and reversible.

Consider lap band surgery for a safe and fully reversible weight loss method. TLBC offers a sound solution for lifelong weight loss. http://www.tlbc.ca/

In this article we are going to take a quick look at the myriad of ways you can lose weight fast and look absolutely stunning at that next party, beach bash or even a simple upcoming job interview. Contrary to what most people are trying to "sell" you, losing weight and feeling great is reasonably simple once you know how to approach it. Read on as we explore!

The very first thing you need to know is this: Regardless of what diet you pick, and there are several great ones that are popular and successful right now, you HAVE to understand your own body. Everyone has a different metabolism, foods which interact with their own unique biology in subtly different ways - but there are absolute truisms as well that are universally applicable. Cutting down your caloric intake (even in creative ways) and increasing the frequency of MOVING your body will result in weight loss, plain and simple.

Increasing your fluids WILL make you feel fuller, faster and will flush your system. Try abstaining from coffee for a week and substituting tea in its place - without caffeine if possible. Cut out sodas and other sugary beverages and replace with water. Do this for 7 days and you will see a difference in not only your weight - (often times several pounds of "stuff" will seemingly be shed, leaving you lighter, cleaner and simply glowingly gleaming from inside out) but your emotional well being as well.

Again, the absolute best way to shed weight fast is a detox, or all juice diet. Most people will simply not be able to do this, do to social, work and familial responsibilities and pressures, but it is truly the fountain of youth for those who have. To get a taste of the benefits without the full commitment, try and pick one meal a day and simply replace with fresh juiced recipes, not from concentrate, but rather live, organic fruits and vegetables "juiced" for maximum nutritional vibrancy. You will find it to be your favorite meal of the day in a very short time, and again, this simple substitution will make you healthier, wealthier and wise in no time flat...

Make it fun! If it feels like a chore, it will be. Celebrate your body. It truly is the most magnificent machine in the living universe, and it is yours to mold into whatever you desire...

Laxatives For Weight Loss

Laxatives are initially used to cure constipation and such. But nowadays, these laxatives are selling hot off the shelves for the purpose of weight loss. Many women now view laxatives as the new weight loss pill and they are popping them in desperate attempt to get the desired figure.

When these laxatives are taken in excess, they can cause several side effects such as bloody diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. It is definitely not an ideal way to a healthy and long lasting weight loss.

The purpose of the laxative is to increase the bowel activity. At the same time, they would disallow the large intestine to absorb food. If these laxatives are taken in large amount over a greater period of time, it can lead to greasy diarrhea, and hence resulting in weight loss. However, one must remember that the consumption laxatives can also cause damage to certain organs of the body.

These laxatives help to remove water from the system, hence causing rapid weight loss. But the weight loss is only temporary. As you re-hydrate your body, the weight will come back in an instant. At the same time, if your body gets too dehydrated, you might suffer from other very serious health problems.

Laxatives consumers failed to realize that they actually lose more than just their weight. There are so many health risks relating to the consumption of laxatives and many of these are fatal. A study conducted by the Eating Disorders Association stated that 1 out of 5 women consumed weight-inducing laxatives. The figures for male consumers were much less. More appalling is the fact that most laxative users remain unaware of its massive health risks especially since laxatives are relatively cheap and can be easily purchased anywhere.

The most popular laxative product available in the market takes the form of tea. These form of laxatives are very affordable. Slimming tea and dieter's tea may seem to be very effective, but what they failed to know is that it can actually harm them. These products help to ensure swift bowel movement and aids in the removal of toxins. It is best if one choose a slimming tea that is made up of herbal products, as they can be quite beneficial.

These laxatives in the form of slimming teas does not have a direct effect on the woman's fertility and menstrual cycle, but they should watch out as drinking these can cause them to shed off weight rapidly, and this can be very unhealthy and dangerous for their body.

These laxatives have more negative effects than the positives. It is best if one does not consider taking laxatives as part of losing weight the easy way. Laxatives and weight loss is a lethal combination and it does not work! So, do try to avoid it at all costs.

New Year Resolution - Weight Loss

Losing weight is a goal that will probably be all the more popular as the years go by. As the obesity epidemic grows, people will be all the more intent on making New Year's resolutions that involve some idea of weight loss. But just how should someone lose weight? Can the idea of weight loss be made into a workable New Year's resolution at all?

First of all, the idea of losing weight is very general, and it will be difficult to meet if you have no idea of how you want to lose weight, and how much weight you want to lose. You might also need to have an idea of how fast you want to lose that weight. Remember, weight loss is not as simple an idea as it's often worked out to be. Losing weight involves your entire body participating in the weight loss process: your muscle mass will change, the percent of fat in your body will change, and even your endocrine system, the group of organs in your body that is responsible for producing your hormones, will have to adjust to your new weight, exercise, and eating habits.

When making the resolution, think: how much weight do you want to lose, and how fast do you want to lose it? Do you want to lose weight in your overall body, or are there places in your body that have a lot of flab and are especially prone to weight gain? How much weight do you want to lose in a few months? All these questions need to be answered when you start formulating your fitness goals. These can determine what kind of weight loss regimen you need to follow - and moreover, you will need this information in order to tell your prospective trainer or nutritionist exactly what he or she will need to do in order to help you meet your weight loss goals.

You will need to consider different ways to meet your weight loss goals. There is the all-important exercise. You can choose to make your own regimen or to go to the gym. The advantage of having your own regimen is that you have more control over the intensity of your exercise, and you do not have to spend a lot on a gym membership. One disadvantage is that you may not have the time to carry out the regimen, and sometimes, depending on your fitness needs, it can be expensive if you have to spend on more expensive gym equipment.

The advantage of going to the gym is that you are forced to go because of the often exorbitant gym fees that you will need to pay. Some gyms also offer fitness training, weight training, consultation with a nutritionist, and free use of gym facilities, such as the showers and the sauna. However, you might not feel like going to the gym all the time. This might cause you to spend a lot of money for very little done on your part.

There are also many different exercises you can do, depending on your weight loss needs and your health background. There are the high impact exercises, such as boxing, aerobics, street dancing, and other exercise routines that demand a lot of stretching and twisting from you. This can be dangerous for you if you have bone or muscle problems. There are the low impact exercises, such as yoga or Pilates, which involve very gentle movements that aim to relax you. Such exercise will allow you to have greater control over your breathing, and greater flexibility over certain muscle groups. In particular, Pilates strengthens your body core.

There are also many different fun activities that have been turned into exercises. These include belly dancing, which can be good if you want to lose weight around your abdominal area. You can also do line dancing, jazz, ballet, and other forms of dance in order to strengthen different parts of your body and get yourself into shape.

These are only a few aspects of weight loss that you may need to take into account before you make your weight loss resolution. Remember, weight loss is not a simple idea, and there is no single technique that you can follow. You can use a combination of all these exercises, or even add it to a special diet. In any case, always consult with an expert before you do anything drastic. Your body will love you for it.

Weight Loss Tips - Drink More Water To Lose Weight Faster!

Not drinking much water is as bad as starving for weight loss. Lack of water causes retention of fluid in the body.

Guzzling eight to ten glasses of pure water is good for many reasons. It helps our body dispose off toxins. You would have heard of the universal advice, "drink at least eight glasses of water a day!" This medical dogma has been proved to be effective.

The urban lifestyle has given way to habits that are harmful to the body, one of which is substituting water for soft drinks, coffee and tea, but they are not good because they fail to hydrate the body. They may also act as diuretics or contain sugars. Replacing these drinks with water increases the energy levels of the body and also helps with the exercise regimen, which should be a part of all weight loss programs. With a good hydration regimen (drinking water) and proper exercise, it is possible to maintain good health while aiming at losing weight.

Water by itself also helps in weight loss, since it carries no calorie content, and should be made your dominant drink. It keeps diseases such as high blood pressure, arthritis and diabetes at bay.

Drinking more water is necessary and needs to be included in weight loss programs. However, many people who are on a diet believe in the false notion that drinking water before a meal is a good way of killing hunger. Drinking water for filling up the stomach does not help and can prove bad for health.

Even when you are on a quick weight loss regimen, it is important to form eating habits keeping long-term weight control in mind and not to resort to techniques that seem to be beneficial in the short-term.

The Truth About Weight Loss Myths

Lets face it every regime has its own supply of useless folklore and half-truths that get passed on down the line from person to person. But I'd put weight loss up against any of them for what has to be the most time wasting and even the most dangerous myths out there.

There is a ton of free advice seen in the media these days and if it is taken seriously, can really set you back on your weight loss endeavours. This can lead to the kind of frustration that makes people think they are "destined to remain fat for the rest of their life".

This in not true, Have a look at the Weight loss myths below and draw your own conclusions.

Exercise on an empty stomach and burn more fat.

Effective weight loss is the total amount of calories burned during the day, not how or why they were burned. It doesn't matter if it is night or morning, so exercise early in the day has no advantage to exercise later in the day.

Studies show that increased metabolism induced by anaerobic exercise is actually less after a large meal. Which probably means that more energy is being used for digestion than what is being used to repair muscle.

More exercise is better.

Every exercise session is beneficial to each individual, however more is not always better. It depends on what is trying to be achieved. There is a level and frequency required to achieve results.

After this level is reached, additional exercise can have the opposite effect, not allowing the body to recuperate and adapt to the stress induced by the exercise, which can be detrimental to your results.

After stopping exercise muscle will turn to fat.

This in not possible, Muscle and fat are two different types of tissues in the body and you cannot convert one into the other. This is like trying to turn water into oil.

If you stop training, the muscles will shrink in size but they will not disappear. The more calories taken in that are not burned off will be deposited as fat.

If you're not sweating, you're not working hard enough.

Sweating is the body's way of cooling itself down. Many factors contribute to body temperature, including room temperature, types of exercise done, body-fat levels, clothing, and exercise intensity.

The intensity for exercise can't be judged by the amount you sweat. A well-trained person will often sweat a lot because their body can more efficiently regulate heat.

Taking sugar before exercise raises energy levels.

Ingestion of sugar will lead to a rapid rise in blood sugar levels. This rapid rise stimulates a release of insulin, which quickly removes the excess sugar from the blood system, often causing your blood sugar levels to drop, sometimes below the level that it started at, leading to faster exhaustion.

Gaining weight is just a part of getting older.

Getting older is not an excuse for gaining weight! As we age and begin a more sedentary lifestyle we start to lose muscle mass.

The efficiency of your metabolism is directly linked to how much muscle you have on your body. The most efficient way of maintaining your body's muscle mass and keeping your metabolism from dropping is by doing a high intensity strength-training workout once a week.

If it's fat free I can have as much as I want.

Unfortunately fat free doesn't mean calorie free. The word fat free is misleading because if you overeat on anything, even fat free foods and you don't burn off those calories; your body will store the excess as fat.

Don't drink water when you exercise or you will get cramps.

By drinking litres of icy cold water in one go while exercising you will probably suffer from cramps. This is why it is important to drink water continuously before, during and after exercising to replace the fluid you've lost and avoid any discomfort.

By not having a personal trainer I wont make gains.

Hiring a personal trainer is one way you can use to reach your goals, but you are an adult capable of making decisions and setting your own goals once you have the knowledge of how to go about it.

Following a good exercise program and eating plan does not require someone standing over you and telling you how to do it.

By exercising my abs I will lose my potbelly.

Exercising your abdominals will help to tone and firm the abdominal region, but it will not reduce fat deposits that are responsible for a potbelly. Fat reduction comes from burning more calories than you take in. Fat is reduced uniformly throughout the body there is no such thing as spot reduction.

Your next step? To take what you have just learned and the next time you hear a weight loss myth evaluate it scientifically.

How to Stretch Muscles Safely

An important aspect of your exercise routine, stretching muscles safely can increase flexibility, reduce risk of injury, and provide pain relief associated with exercise. As most aerobic and strength training programs naturally cause muscles to contract and flex, it's important to balance the workout with lengthening, or stretching, muscles afterward.

Regular stretching after a workout provides various benefits including increased flexibility and better range of motion of your joints. Stretching also increases circulation, sending blood flow to your muscles. Improved posture is also a benefit of stretching, as is stress relief. Finally, stretching maintains the full range of motion through the joints. Coordination and balance help keep you mobile and less prone to injury from falls, especially as you age.

To get started on a moderately difficult routine, you'll Need: floor mat or rug, comfortable clothes, tennis shoes.

To begin, incline your head forward, roll it from left to right, then right from left. Be careful how far you turn your head. Breathe deeply as you do so. Next, put your arm on your chest and grab the forearm with the opposite arm. Pull the arm until you feel your shoulder being stretched. Push the arm you are stretching the opposite way in order to contract the muscle if you feel your chest is stretching instead of your shoulder.

Extend your arms in front of you. Join both hands together and cross fingers. Push your arms further and try to push your scapulae in opposite directions. Next, lift one arm over your head, bending at the elbow. Hold the elbow with the opposite hand and gently pull your arm. This exercise should create a great stretch along your side. Repeat on the opposite side.

Now, standing upright and tall, pull one leg behind you and hold. Breathe deeply. Then repeat with the other leg. If you are concerned about losing your balance, stand a foot or so from a wall and hold yourself steady with your opposite hand.

For an effective calf stretch, stand a foot or so in front of a wall. Place your arm up against the wall while bringing one leg in towards the wall, while keeping your legs straight. Your body should for a 45-degree angle. Repeat with the other leg.

Next, sitting on the floor, stretch both legs out in front of you. Gently bending at the waist, stretch only as far as your arms will reach. Do not try to necessarily touch your toes. Keep knees flexible. The focus of this exercise is to stretch the muscles in the lower back, thighs and calves. Remember to breathe deeply.

Opening legs into the shape of a "V," bend slowly toward the right leg. Do not bounce. Then bend toward the left leg.

To stretch the lower back, lay flat on your mat. Fold one leg onto your chest and hold. Remember to breathe. Repeat with the other leg. Then, bring both legs into your chest at the same time and hold.

Now some tips & warnings, don't bounce. Hold each stretch for at least 30 seconds. If you feel pain during the stretch, back off to the point where you don't feel pain and then hold the stretch. Don't hold your breath while stretching. Try to relax.

Stretch both sides of your body so the range of motion is equal on each side. Begin all exercise with light stretching after a warm-up, followed by a thorough stretching after a workout. As you become more flexible, you will be able to breathe more deeply during stretching, allowing your body to relax and achieve a deeper stretch.

Now available for home use to soothe the aches and pains associated with arthritis, psoriasis, tired joints and sore muscles from an active lifestyle. Thousands have benefited from the pain relieving power of these safe, natural, non-prescription treatments.

Low Carb Dieting For Successful Weight Loss

Low carb dieting has become fashionable in recent years especially with the publication of the Atkins diet. Losing weight is a goal for so many people and everybody is looking for the quick and easy way to lose weight. Some people do not need to lose weight at all but still get stressed over a couple of pounds. Others need to lose for medical reasons and may have one hundred pounds or more that they want to shed.

There are many different diets out there including low carbohydrate diets and the truth is that most of them will achieve weight loss if they are followed correctly. This does not mean always doing what the diet says every moment of every day. What is more important is how you deal with the inevitable occasion when you eat too much or feast on foods that are not on the plan. If you can write this off and return to the plan without giving yourself a hard time, you are likely to succeed. Everybody has those days - the important thing is to let them go and accept them as just another step on the road to permanent weight loss.

It is also important to find a diet that you can easily follow. Low carb diets suit many people because the rules are quite simple. As the name suggests, the diet consists of avoiding or limiting foods that are high in carbohydrates. These include bread, pasta, potatoes, rice and other grains. Sugar is also a carbohydrate. Once you understand what these foods are, it is a simple matter to choose dishes that avoid them.

Most criticism of low carbohydrate dieting is based on the fact that the dieters will get most of their daily calories from meat, dairy and other high fat products. This can lead to high cholesterol and other problems related to a high intake of saturated fats. Medical advice is advised before starting this type of diet. Sometimes weight loss is good in the early stages but people cannot handle the restrictions in the longer term and start to deviate from the diet.

One of the problems that many people have with low carb dieting is the elimination of bread and pasta. No more toast, spaghetti or pizza! Many of the foods that are quickest to prepare are based around carbohydrates - burgers in their buns, fries, sandwiches, pasta and sauce. Beer and other alcoholic drinks are high in carbs too. It is true that alcohol is generally restricted on any diet, because it is high in calories and very low in nutritional value, but low carb diets put particular emphasis on this.

Still there are many foods that can be enjoyed on a low carb diet. If you are fond of meat you will relish the opportunity to consume beef, chicken and other animal products. The popularity of these diets is clear from the length of time that they stay on the bestseller lists. It is just a matter of what suits you. Low carb dieting works for many people.

Keep A Weight Loss Journal

As with any weight loss program, you may hit a plateau or possibly even gain a pound or two, so it is very important to keep a weight loss journal to refer back to what you did and ate that week and make adjustments to get you back on track to meeting your weight loss goals.

A successful weight loss program requires specific attention to your daily diet and exercise. Basically you are making a change to your life style. Once you have made the decision to alter your image and the way you live, you have to be committed to this life style from now on, or you will end up back where you started, or fatter. To stay motivated and monitor your progress, you need to be able to see your results, not just in the mirror or on the scale, but actually see what you accomplished and how. To keep on track, you will want to keep a weight loss journal of your progress.

Keeping a weight loss journal of the foods you eat, the exercises you do and the weight you lose is an excellent way to adhere to a weight loss program and keep you motivated. This is your record to demonstrate your progress that can be shared with others as you wish.

You do not need to go out and buy an expensive weight loss journal, it can be kept in a simple notebook or in an Excel spreadsheet. You do not want to keep this important information on single sheets of paper because they can be easily lost. Your journal should be bound or on your computer.

Your weight loss journal is a personal record for you to keep all the information you need to be successful in your weight loss program. Below are some suggestions to help you monitor your daily progress and stay on track for meeting your weight loss goals:

  • Define your goal(s) including time frames and MileStones - Very Important.
  • Remember, there are no minor successes! Document them all.
  • Your weight
  • Your weight loss
  • Every spec of food or drink you put in your mouth
  • The time you consumed it
  • Calories consumed
  • Split out Fat, Carbohydrates and Protein intakes
  • The exercise you did and for how long
  • Recipes that work for you
  • Magazine or articles that inspire you
  • Personal comments (what works for you, what does not, etc.)

Before you start any weight loss or exercise program, you must set clear and challenging yet realistic goals for yourself. If you ignore this step - like most people do - you are destined to fail, no matter what you do or how hard you try. The crucial first step must be goal setting.

Your weight loss journal must also include your diet and exercise plan. This is your blueprint on how you are going to attain your goals. Successful weight loss is a 3-legged stool consisting of a proper diet, exercise plan and continuous education. If one of these components is missing or ignored, there is no way that stool can stay standing. Your weight loss journal will help keep that stool standing firmly in place and give you documented proof of what works for you (and what does not) to keep you on track for meeting your weight loss goals.

Tips For Easy Weight Loss

Practically everyone will make an effort at some point in their life to lose weight. Despite our understanding of the benefits of good nutrition and regular exercise, more often than not, what should be a relatively easy thing to do, can be easier said than done.

No matter what your age, before embarking on a program to shed those extra pounds, see your doctor or primary caregiver first for a checkup. This is to rule out any underlying medical condition that may be manifesting itself as weight gain. Once you've got a clean bill of health, it's time to start counting calories!

Or so you thought! The reason most people fail to achieve their dieting goals is because they fail to embrace minor changes in lifestyle.

Weight loss is about change; and often minor, subtle changes can make dieting simple and trouble-free. Everyone knows that in order to lose weight in the first place, you must reduce your intake and increase your output. The process really needs to begin with a painless change in your eating habits:

1. Consume lots of wholesome, fresh fruits and vegetables.

2. Eliminate processed or fast foods altogether.

3. Reduce portion size to recommended portions - a half cup of pasta instead of a full cup or more.

4. Eat 5 to 6 smaller meals per day to spread out your intake and stabilize blood sugar levels.

5. Avoid skipping meals or shopping just prior to a meal.

6. Reward yourself with a small treat occasionally!

Balance your diet with regular exercise, which should include a combination of aerobic and resistance activities for 30 to 60 minutes per day. You can even try working your exercise into normal daily activities, such as taking stairs instead of an elevator, riding a bicycle to work and back and so on. Even doing housework burns calories!

If you're accustomed to exercise or really out of shape, start out slowly for about 10 minutes twice a day and gradually increase the time to allow your body to adjust to the new activities. More importantly, don't set unrealistic goals or expect shrinking waistlines overnight!

If you pace yourself and are persistent, you'll find that taking off the pounds and getting back into shape is actually straightforward to do. Don't allow what should be an easy and uncomplicated weight loss program to become overwhelming!

3 Day Tuna Fish Diet Review

Well like most people I had put a little weight on over the winter and decided to try and take a bit off. I only needed to lose about 10 pounds or so to get to my normal weight so as silly as it seemed I decided to give the 3 day tuna fish diet a try. I figured it was quick and not to complicated so no harm done if it didn't work. So off I went to the grocery store with my shopping list.

For those who have never heard of this diet, basically it involves eating tuna every day at one meal and your suppose to be able to lose about 10 pounds which was right in my sweet spot. You can find several variations of it online, you may have even had it sent to you via email spam. I must say I did modify it a bit and ate tuna every day at lunch even though on day 3 I was suppose to eat it a dinner, but other than that I ate what the diet told me to. I am sure this had no drastic effect on my results.

My first day of the 3 day tuna fish diet was very easy as it hardly seemed like a diet at all. Not sure what this says about my normal eating habits. On the second day I did become a little hungry though as it felt like I had missed a meal some where. By the third day though I was hungry and very sick of tuna, I was not bothered by it to much as I knew it was pretty much going to be over soon.

The Results
I had checked my weight on the morning I began the 3 day tuna fish diet before breakfast so I waited till the morning of day 4 before breakfast to check the results. As I stepped on the scale with my stomach growling in anticipation I was expecting great things, well net result was I lost 2.5 pounds. That is probably the same as I would of lost if I had just restricted my diet a little over the 3 day period. It wasn't that difficult to stick to but don't really think the results are more than you get with just healthy eating. In the past the Dean Ornish diet is the diet I have had the most success with but it is very hard to stick to.

What Is The Current Weight Loss Miracle?

More than half of the American population is overweight and the problem seems to be getting worse every year. Obesity is even trickling down to our kids; there are more children who are overweight than ever before. Most of us know that in order for us to lose weight we have to reduce the number of calories we take in and/ or increase the number of calories we burn off. Our bodies will use food we consume as energy, but the food that isn't used is stored as fat. The good news is Omegga-3 fatty acids can help us burn off those calories before they get a chance to sit around in storage as an end result we will end up carrying less excess weight.

If you increased the amount of omega- 3's in your diet and decreased your intake of pro-inflammatory high-glycemic carbohydrates (starches and sugars) and also saturated fats (found in meats, fried foods etc.) Then as a result, unwanted weight would eventually start to fall off. Not to mention other benefits like nourishing the skin, hair, nerves, glands and help to possibly prevent cardiovascular disease. Moreover, these essential fatty acids encourage the body to burn the excess fat as heat and to promote insulin sensitivity. The combination of burning the fat as heat and increasing insulin sensitivity helps to reduce the risk of obesity and diabetes.

When the food we eat is consumed there is one of two pathways the food takes in our bodies. The first one is food calories can be burned inside our cells in the mitochondria to produce ATP, which is used to store and release energy for work within the body. Another name for this process is called Oxidative Phosphorylation. The food can also be stored as body fat or stored as glycogen in the liver and muscles. The goal would be to uncouple the oxidation from the phosphorylation. Then the food calories can be burned off by thermogenesis. If the majority of food that we eat could be burned up as heat then more of us would stay slim and lean. Omega 3's can actually uncouple the oxidation from the phosphorylation and also increase insulin sensitivity. Insulin receptors are found in our cell's plasma membrane. Essential fatty acids helps keep this critical and fragile portion of our cell flexible, thereby keeping these receptors intact. If you want even more information on diabetes, an insulin then go to the website located in the resource box below.
