Lowest Bodyweight: 145 pounds as of late summer (July or August) of 2004
Lowest Bodyfat: 4.5 % as of late summer (July or August) of 2004

Causes of heaviest weight gain: Due to lose of interest and slacking off in cardio/aerboic activity and getting to obsessed with making videos and talking online to much, also increase in junk food and caloric intake hitting an all time high of 13000 calories on day, and getting over the 10000 calorie mark more then once ever in my lifetime. This was the first weight gain where I went over the 200 pound mark as well, my second highest weight gain in ever was 185 pounds never hit the 190 pound mark. But ever since I got into weight lifting I constantly lived in fear that if I ever gained 200 pounds that I would be a complete blob of fat, but surprisingly i came to accept myself and didn't fret to much about being over 200 pounds, although now that my health is at stake I want to lose the weight more for that now rather then looking slim and cut again perhaps.

Cause of Biggest Weight Lose: My first year of college I was about 155 pounds and I gained 20 pounds of some fat and some muscle mass, but my bodyfat went from 8-10% to 14-15% and i felt fat and my abbs were starting to get hard to see, so i joined a gym that was very close to my job, less then a minute away, and my current job was at subway, so all i did was eat low calorie foods and cut back on my carbs, but probably cut back to low on my calories, but anyways after about 2-4 months my body went from 175 to 145 pounds (30 pound weight lose) also hitting an all time lowest bodyfat of 4.5% sacrificing some muscle mass, i looked pretty cut, but I probably lost the weight to fast due to not having enough calories in my diet, so that is why i probably never maintained that weight, i only held out at that weight and bodyfat probably less then a month, then I was back up to 150 in no time.

You'll still be able to get the body's requirement of fat from the food that you can eat, so it's definitely a healthy option.

The next step is knowing what food to eat, now that you know how to lose fat from your diet, or at least lessen it considerably. Again, protein and carbohydrates are the important food groups you must pay attention to. Protein will be beneficial in building muscle tone, so that you're not just thin, you're lean. Research has shown that people with protein in their diet have a significantly reduced appetite, hardly hogging down food at meal times.

To get the best results, a balanced diet of protein and carbohydrates is recommended. Mind you, stay away from high carbohydrates. Especially if you have little exercise, your daily physical exertions will just be burning minimal calories and the stored carbohydrates that you don't burn up will eventually transform into fat. But you do need carbs, especially if you're on an exercise program, and will need low carb foods, such as whole wheat grains, sugars from fruits and vegetables. When you're beginning your diet, it's understandable that you may not get enough good carbs to fuel your exercise regimen, or you may be overdoing it. Habitat
Even though most people think of Antarctica when they think of penguins, actually only two species live on the Antarctic continent (the Adelie and the Emperor). The other species range in habitat from the islands near the Antarctic circle, to the shores of South America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the Galapagos Islands.

Some species of penguins live 75% of their lives at sea, coming to shore only to breed and molt. Migratory penguins will spend 3-5 months at sea, before coming to shore. Although they do rest on ice floes. Very few details are known about the penguin's life in the sea.


Preditors
Penguins have no large land predators, which is probably why they have little fear of people. The Yellow-eyed penguin is the exception, they are very shy and reclusive. (And also in danger of extinction. It is estimated that there are less than 10,000 left in the world.)

In the sea, penguins are preyed on by killer whales, leopard seals, sea lions, sharks and (according to one book I read) octopus (octopi?).


In Motion
Penguins are great swimmers, with speeds reaching 15 MPH. The Emperor penguin can dive to a depth of 900 feet and stay under for 20 minutes. On land the penguin is not so graceful, their short legs give them their distinctive waddle. They also get around by "tobogganing", which means they flop down on their belly and kick with their feet and flippers over the snow and ice.




Physical Characteristics
Penguins are extremely specialized birds. Totally adapted to the life they lead. Their wings have become flippers, and their feathers have become unlike the feathers of any other type of bird. The feathers are very dense, approximately 70 feathers per square inch. They are shiny, long and stiff. They are somewhat curved and overlapping (like fish scales, or the tiles on a roof). This design helps keep the penguin waterproof. The penguin also keep their feathers well oiled with frequent preening and an oil gland at the base of the tail. Once a year, after breeding, the penguins molt (that is replace the old worn out feathers with new ones). Since the penguins are not waterproof while they are molting, they do not go to sea, and do not eat, during this time. Molting can take 30 days and a penguin may lose as much as 30% of their body weight in the process.

One book mentioned that (since they spend most of their time at sea) penguins drink salt water. They have special glands that remove the salt. It is then excreted as a liquid and drips down the grooves on the sides of the penguins beak.

Cold weather (climate) penguins are well insulated with their thick blubber and feathers. In fact sometimes they become over heated (even the antarctic breeds), especially the dark feathered chicks. To cool off the penguins will pant and fluff up their feathers, to promote heat loss.
