Tofu, also toufu (the Japanese Romaji spelling), doufu (the Chinese Pinyin spelling often used in Chinese recipes) or bean curd (the literal translation), is a food of Chinese origin,[1] made by coagulating soy milk, and then pressing the resulting curds into blocks. There are many different varieties of tofu, including fresh tofu and tofu that has been processed in some way. Tofu has very little flavor or smell on its own, so it can be used either in savory or sweet dishes, and is often seasoned or marinated to suit the dish.

The production of tofu from soy milk is similar to the production of cheese from milk (fermentation), although some tofu is made by processing non-soy products, such as almonds or black beans. Two major byproducts of the process are tofu skin and soy pulp.

Tofu originated in ancient China,[1] but little else is known about the origins of tofu and its method of production. The origin is the source of some speculation and legend, but there is insufficient historical information to support such speculations. Tofu and its production technique were subsequently introduced into Japan in the Nara period (late eighth century) as well as other parts of East Asia. This spread likely coincided with the spread of Buddhism as it is an important source of proteins in the religion's vegetarian diet.[2]

Tofu is low in calories, contains beneficial amounts of iron (especially important for women of child bearing age) and has no cholesterol. Depending on the coagulant used in manufacturing, the tofu may also be high in calcium (important for bone development and maintenance), and magnesium (especially important for athletes). Tofu contains soy isoflavones, and the safety of consuming isoflavones is questioned.

What is Cacao?

Cacao is the seed of a fruit of an Amazonian tree that was brought to Central America during or before the time of the Olmecs. Cacao beans were so revered by the Mayans and Aztecs that they used them as money!

In 1753 Carl von Linnaeus, the 18th-century Swedish scientist, thought that cacao was so important that he named the genus and species of this tree himself. He named this tree: Theobroma cacao, which literally means "cacao, the food of the gods."

Cacao beans contain no sugar and between 12% and 50% fat depending on variety and growth conditions. Nature's First Law cacao beans are around 40% fat content (low compared to other nuts). There is no evidence to implicate cacao bean consumption with obesity.

Magnesium
Cacao is remarkably rich in magnesium.

Cacao seems to be the #1 source of magnesium of any food. This is likely the primary reason women crave chocolate during the menstrual period. Magnesium balances brain chemistry, builds strong bones, and is associated with more happiness. Magnesium is the most deficient major mineral on the Standard American Diet (SAD); over 80% of Americans are chronically deficient in Magnesium!

Stimulant or Superfood?
Cacao contains subtle amounts of caffeine and theobromine. However, experiments have shown that these stimulants are far different when consumed raw than cooked.

Consider the following: Experimental provings of chocolate by homeopaths indicate its stimulating effect when cooked. One experiment conducted with a decoction of roasted ground cacao beans in boiling water produced an excitement of the nervous system similar to that caused by black coffee, an excited state of circulation, and an accelerated pulse. interestingly, when the same decoction was made with raw, unroasted beans neither effect was noticeable, leading the provers to conclude that the physiological changes were caused by aromatic substances released during roasting.

MAO Inhibitors
Cacao seems to diminish appetite, probably due to its monoamine oxidase enzyme inhibitors (MAO inhibitors) - these are different from digestive enzyme inhibitors found in most nuts and seeds. These rare MAO inhibitors actually produce favorable results when consumed by allowing more serotonin and other neurotransmitters to circulate in the brain. According to Dr. Gabriel Cousens, MAO inhibitors facilitate youthening and rejuvenation.

Phenylethylamine (PEA)
Phenylethylamine (PEA) is found in chocolate. PEA is an adrenal-related chemical that is also created within the brain and released when we are in love. This is one of the reasons why love and chocolate have a deep correlation. PEA also plays a role in increasing focus and alertness.

Anandamide (The Bliss Chemical)
A neurotransmitter called anandamide, has been isolated in cacao. Anandamide is also produced naturally in the brain. Anandamide is known as "The Bliss Chemical" because it is released while we are feeling great. Cacao contains enzyme inhibitors that decrease our bodies' ability to breakdown anandamide. This means that natural anandamide and/or cacao anandamide may stick around longer, making us feel good longer, when we eat cacao.

Allergies?
A recent study showed that only one out of 500 people who thought they were allergic to chocolate actually tested positive. Allergies to chocolate are quite rare. It is typically the case that the person is in fact allergic to milk and dairy products.

What to do with Cacao Beans?

Step 1: Peel the cacao beans (two methods of peeling): 1. Peel them dry with your fingernails or a small knife.
2. Soak the cacao beans in water up to 30 minutes, then peel them. Soaking softens the skin-peel and sometimes makes peeling easier.

Step 2: What to do with your peeled cacao beans: 1. Try eating them straight, one at a time. Chew it thoroughly and experience the taste extravaganza of raw chocolate.
2. Add to coconut-based or fruit-based smoothies to enhance the flavor.
3. Add a drip of agave nectar or honey or another sweetening agent to the raw cacao bean and chew!
4. Freeze cacao beans with sweeteners (agave nectar or honey are fantastic). Eat cold.
5. Blend cacao beans into herbal teas with the Peruvian superfood maca.
6. Crush cacao beans with a mortar and pestle and add to raw ice creams for the best chocolate chips in the world.

Fat Loss Resolution 2008

I have achieved my fat loss resolution that I have set in September 2007 and in 2008 I like to continue on with this fabulous weight loss system that has worked for me and many of my friends that I have recommended to.

If you are the one that keeps eating the same type of foods from the same food grouping and hope to lose weight, you will be far from achieving your goal. What you need is a plan that tells you what to eat for 11 days and you need not worry about the calories, the carbs, the proteins, the fats etc. We people need something that is simple, no brainer system that tells us to eat this and that's it, simple.

Menu Software: This fat loss program has a menu software program that asks you what foods you like to eat, so it is customized to what you want. And you don't have to count your calories, the menu software will take care for you.

Calorie Shifting System: It is based on a system that burns fat fast and creates a high metabolism rate by rotating your food groups. Seem confusing but in a nutshell, you must not be eating the same types of foods from the same food group.

Yes you have set your resolution to scout for a proven diet program. But how badly do you want to lose fats?

What has helped me and my friends to achieve our goals are:

1. Determination:

In order for any system that you embark on to work, you need determination that you need to lose those extra pounds badly. Maybe it's for your boyfriend? For your girlfriend? Your Wife? Your Husband? With such motivation-driven determination, it is likely you will reach your goal.

2. Set Realistic Goal:

3. Discipline:

If the system generates a menu for you for 11 days and tell you that you should eat this for day 1, day 2, etc. and if you follow it, then it will work. So keep that discipline. You are responsible for yourself. No one else.

Once you achieve your target to lose your pounds, reward yourself with new smaller clothes. Start to get rid those big ones so that you have cause to celebrate.

5. Tell the Whole World:

That you are on a special fat loss diet program. This is to remind yourself that you are dead serious about it and you will have this goal accomplished for 2008. Period.

Many people want to lose weight but never succeed for various reasons. If you are serious about losing weight, here are some things you need to know.

As a result, to embark on a successful weight loss program, you require 3 main components in your weight loss plan. They are:

  • Strength Training: To build lean muscles
  • Healthy Diet: To help cleanse and nourish your body
Incorporate 3 these components into your plan for the best result and here are 7 tips to get started
  1. Set Your Goal. How much and by when do you plan to achieve the weight you want. Write them down. You may even want to do a mock photo of how you will eventually look like to motivate yourself.
  2. Make A Plan. No way will just cutting down on what we eat produce any significant weight loss. We need the 3 components mentioned above to work together for maximum impact. So work out an action plan and stick to it. Remember if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Eating a turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato and mustard instead of a roast beef sandwich with mayonnaise just twice a week will save you another 15 pounds. Go through your fridge and pantry and simply throw out all the high calories, high fat snacks and food that are not in your plan. Water is nature's magic elixir. It keeps our organs working with us to lose weight. Eight glasses of water or non-calorie drinks a day is essential.
  5. Learn as You Lose. The more information you have about food and its relationship to weight, the better off you will be and not just while you are losing weight but after the weight is gone. You want to keep those pounds off!
  6. Get Support. Enlist Your Family in Your Battle. Nobody can sabotage a diet faster than a spouse or significant other. Get them on your side from the start. Weight loss is hard at best but it does not have to be lonely. Join a Support group if that can help you.
  7. Chart Your Progress. Keeping a Food Diary will help to get you to keep to the weight you want to have. A progress chart to show you how much weight you have lost will help to motivate you to stay on task.

With these tips and information on hand, they are useless if you do not apply them. So, do not waste any more time. Commit yourself to your goals and plan and you will be on your way to a successful weight loss.

There are three myths, three ideologies that are simply destructive to the ill-informed. Myths that promise to cut fat, build muscle, and lose weight can simply add to that stubborn, excessive belly fat or cause your biceps to remain stagnant, growing flabby instead of granite-like.

Simple Weight Loss Tip Myth #1: Spot Reduction does NOT work.... So forget about simply getting rid of only that excessive belly fat or that spare tire, fat loss comes as a collective whole.
